About

It is my life-long commitment to bring equity through education in communities similar to the one that I grew up in.

I am Founder and CEO of REJUVENATE School Culture LLC. I have more than 18 years of experience in developing a culture of academic and social emotional excellence in schools located in urban communities. I was raised in the Flatbush community of Brooklyn, NY by parents who migrated from Carriacou, Grenada. The power of education has been the key element of my upbringing as education provides the key to freedom and opportunity.

Throughout my academic career, I quickly learned that environment, discipline, and community, worked hand in hand with quality instruction. My 5th grade teacher, Ms. Houghton, demonstrated the power of hard work, being solution oriented, and creating a classroom culture unique to her high academic expectations. Ms. Haughton connected with my parents personally which showed me the power of parent partnership and engagement. Ms. Houghton recommended that I apply to Philippa Schuyler for the Gifted and Talented which was one and a half hours away from my home in Flatbush. Despite being told by other members of the school community that a school like Philippa Schuyler would not take “someone like me from Flatbush”, I was encouraged by Ms. Haughton and my parents to take the test. I was one of the few in the school’s history to be accepted to the gifted and talented program.

My acceptance to Phillipa Schuyler was an eye opener. I quickly felt the academic and economic divide first hand as I encountered other students that came from schools that were equipped with far more tools, resources, and opportunities than what I experienced going to school in Flatbush during the 1980s. The experience challenged me to work harder than I had ever worked before.

I graduated from the State University at Albany with a Bachelors of Arts in Information Science and Policies. There, I nurtured the skills of being a systems thinker and the importance of managing information through processes for the audience being served. I spent a few years working in the field of technology and felt the call to shift direction towards the field of education. I applied and was accepted to the NYC Teaching Fellows Program Cohort 6 which confirmed my calling and life’s purpose which is to teach, lead, and develop.

I felt the responsibility to not only do well for myself, but more so to pave the way and provide support for students residing in similar communities.
